- 29.8% of Australia’s population is comprised of migrants, that equates to over 7.6 million people here in the Land Down Under.
- In 2019-2020, Australia’s population increased by 194,400 people due to overseas migration.
- People born in England are still the largest population of immigrants to Australia, and overall account for 3.8% of Australia’s population.
- 95,843 places were delivered in the Skill stream;
- 41,961 places were delivered in the Family stream; and
- 81 places were delivered in the Special Eligibility stream.
- The outcome of Child stream for the year was 2,481 places
- 69.5% of the 140,000 visas granted were skilled visas.
- Of these Skill stream visas, 24.4% of them were in the Regional category which included the new Subclass 494 and 491 visas.
- 4.3% of these were from the Global Talent Visa. The highest growth sectors we see with this visa are; Quantum Information, Advanced Digital, Data Science and ICT, MedTech and Energy and Mining Technology.
- As expected, Partner Visas made up a huge portion of the Family stream with 37,118 visas granted in the 2019/2020 year.
- Lodgements in the Family Stream were down 13.3% on the previous year. It will be interesting to see if these increase for 2020/2021 considering our borders are still closed from COVID-19.
