Visitor Visas

Anyone who doesn’t currently hold an Australian visa needs to obtain a visa to travel to Australia for tourism or business purposes.

Australia has a range of visitor visa options to choose from.  They include;

  • the subclass 601 Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) visa
  • the subclass 600 Visitor visa
  • the subclass 651 eVisitor  visa

The subclass 601 ETA visa allows visa holders to make multiple trips to Australia during a 12 month period and stay for a maximum of three months on each visit. There is a nominal cost of $20.00 to apply. Applicants must be outside Australia to apply and hold a passport from a specified country.

The subclass 600 Visitor visa allows visa holders to visit Australia for tourism or business purposes. The subclass 600 Visitor visa can be applied for while the applicant is in Australia or outside Australia and can be granted for a period of three, six or twelve months.

The subclass 651 eVisitor visa allows visa holders to visit Australia for tourism or business purposes for up to three months at a time within a 12 month period. The eVisitor visa is free and only available to certain specified passport holders. Applicants must be outside Australia to apply for an eVisitor visa.

Australia also offers a Working Holiday visa program which allows young people from qualifying countries to come to Australia for a 12 month period to work and holiday.

This program includes;

– The subclass 417 Working Holiday visa which is granted for 12 months and which can be renewed for a further 12 months if certain criteria are met and

– The subclass 462 Work and Holiday visa which is also granted for 12 months and which cannot be renewed.

Australia has also announced it’s intention to introduce a 5 year visitor visa for parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents. The finer details of this visa are yet to be finalised.
