What’s Happening? – Subclass 491 Visas

15 Nov

Do you want to lodge a Subclass 491 expression of interest or Visa application? Unfortunately, it is not good news yet, most states and territories quotas, and occupation lists are still suspended.

Unless you have an occupation on one of the states “critical list”, you will not be able to lodge a Subclass 491 Visa application until the restrictions are lifted.

Here is a state by state, territory by territory outline of what’s going on.

New South Wales

NSW is currently not accepting or issuing new nominations for 491 via. In line with Home Affairs direction, NSW will commence inviting applicants currently in selected health, ICT and engineering occupations, and who currently reside in NSW.
You do not need to submit a new EOI in SkillSelect if your current EOI is valid. Click here for more information

Victoria

Victoria is operating on a limited list of occupations at present. Those who submitted a Registration of Interest for Victorian State Visa Nomination on the Live in Melbourne website by 5pm AEST, 21 September 2020 are being considered for the nomination. Further details are to be announced soon. Click here for more information

South Australia

South Australia will be publishing their occupation list soon. At present, South Australia is operating under interim arrangements. For further information, click here.

Tasmania

Migration Tasmania will email all applicants who lodged their application, offering them an opportunity to either:

• request priority consideration on the basis that they are engaged in a critical role supporting the health system or the Tasmanian economy, or
• withdraw their application for nomination and receive a full refund of the application fee, or
• continue with their application in respect of a requirement to demonstrate that their nomination will lead to a genuine ongoing and meaningful contribution to Tasmania’s economic recovery.

Queensland

491 invitations are still being sent out to applicants who submitted an EOI between 29 September – 05 October 2020. Queensland will not accept calls or emails to enquire about whether an application has been picked up, or where the application is the queue, as this slows down processing times.

BSMQ will advise a re-opening of the skilled program via our homepage and across social media in December 2020. For more information, click here.

Western Australia

The 491  program is currently suspended and is expected to re-open later in the year. No further details are available at this stage.

You can follow the progress here.

Northern Territory

At this stage, onshore General Skilled Migration (GSM) nomination applications and all Business Investment and Innovation Program nomination applications will continue to be accepted and assessed, but no nominations can be issued until the Northern Territory has been allocated quotas. Offshore GSM nomination applications remain closed. For more information, click here.

Australian Capital Territory

The 491 program is open to those who are on the Critical Skills Occupation list. Off-shore applications will not be accepted.
