New South Wales Priority Skilled Occupation List
NSW has updated its NSW Subclass 190 Priority Skilled Occupation List and you will find it here. If your occupation is on the NSW list and you meet all the requirements, you may be able to apply for a Subclass 190 State Nominated Visa nomination from the NSW government. The “availability” column provides an indication of how many places are currently available in the occupation, but note that it specifically states that, “This does not reflect the probability of being invited to apply for NSW nomination in that occupation.”
NSW updates the occupation list regularly to reflect any changes in demand for occupations, including when an occupation has been ‘closed’.
Although the NSW government has permission to sponsor 6000 GSM (General Skilled Migration) applications overall, they have indicated that there will be a substantial reduction in the Subclass 190 State Nominated invitations as the Subclass 190 State Nominated Visa will now only represent half of the state government allocation.
The new Subclass 190 list on the NSW website also shows which occupations have additional requirements and what kind of demand there is for each occupation. These are welcome changes.
The NSW government has revealed that it received more than 60,000 EOIs (Expression of Interests) to assess last program year which is far in excess of available places.
However for “operational” reasons, it would not provide specific details of the points required for specific occupations before an invitation will be issued. We are not provided with the scores that any of the states issue their invitations on other it is from a points score of 65 upwards.
Subclass 190 Visa invitations can be issued at any time of the month by the state.
By way of contrast, Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Visa invitations are issued monthly only and normally on the 11th of each month. The lowest score for the Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Visa invitation round in July 2019 was 80 points. See the Department of Home Affairs graph below. All in all, 1000 invitations were issued for Subclass 189 Skilled Independent visas and only 100 for Subclass 489 Visas. See the chart below.
