PROSPECTIVE MARRIAGE VISA UPDATE
As many of you already know, the Subclass 300 Prospective Marriage Visa, is valid for nine months, and allows the Visa holder to travel to Australia to marry their fiancé.
Unfortunately, the pandemic has ruined many Prospective Marriage Visa holders’ plans to travel to Australia and get married.
The government has clarified (to some extent at least) the situation for Prospective Marriage Visa holders who are stuck overseas because of the travel bans.
Refunds
Visa application fee refunds will be available to Prospective Marriage Visa holders who have been unable to travel to Australia because of the COVID-19 bans, and whose visas have expired.
According to the government, refunds will enable an applicant to reapply for another Prospective Marriage Visa once the travel bands are lifted, and there is also a promise that the new applications will be prioritised.
Visa Extensions
For those of you whose Visa has not yet expired, the Department of Home Affairs states that Visa extensions will be available.
We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated as for the news comes to hand – particularly with respect to the fine print relevant to the changes discussed above.
