Getting a student visa can be a great first step towards Australian Permanent Residence.
Anyone from overseas who wants to study in Australia, must obtain a Student Visa before commencing their studies. Any person who ultimately desires permanent residence in Australia, should carefully consider which subjects they choose to study. Depending on the course studied, the resulting occupation the course is relevant to may or may not be on the permanent residence occupation lists.
Students from primary school age. No upper age limit.
Students from primary school age and upwards are able to apply for Student visas. There is no age upper limit for this visa type.
Application process
To apply for a student visa, applicants must first enrol in a course of study approved by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) for student visa purposes.

Student Visa Guardians
It is also possible for international students under 18 to secure a visa for a guardian to accompany them to Australia up to the age of 18.
