Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Visa

COVID19  UPDATE: Skilled Visas – Subclass 189, 190 and 491 Visas

Due to COVID-19 and the current migration and border restrictions:

⇒ The number of invitations being issued to apply for the Subclass 189 Visa are minimal.

⇒ Invitations are only being issued quarterly and the next round is May 2021.

⇒ State nomination invitations are also very low, and the majority of States and Territories do not have a State Occupation list.

⇒ As a result of the above, achieving permanent residence via the “skilled” pathway (i.e Subclass 189, Subclass 190 and Subclass 491) is virtually impossible unless you have an occupation on the critical skills list.

⇒ We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and will keep you informed once the pandemic restrictions on travelling to Australia are lifted or the occupation lists are updated.

Applicants with a qualifying score in the current Points Test must lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) with the Australian Government and wait to receive an invitation before they can apply for the visa. EOI’s from all candidates with a qualifying score are placed into a pool and candidates receive invitations to apply for a visa in score order.

Candidates with the highest score receive invitations first.

In some instances, a qualifying score of 65 will secure an invitation to apply for a visa, while some in demand occupations  require a much higher score to secure an invitation.
