The subclass 884 Contributory Aged Parent Temporary visa allows ‘aged parents’ of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who is settled in Australia to live temporarily in Australia.
To be classified as an ‘aged parent’, the main applicant must have reached the Australian pension age.

Applicants for subclass 884 Contributory Aged Parent visas must meet the “balance of family” test, meaning 50% or more of their children must live permanently in Australia as permanent residents or more of their children live permanently in Australia as permanent residents than in any other country.
Applicants for the subclass 884 Contributor Aged Parent visa must have at least one child to nominate them for the visa who is settled in Australia, meaning they must have lived permanently in Australia for at least two years before the subclass 884 visa application is lodged.
The subclass 884 Aged Contributory Parent Temporary visa provides an avenue for potential applicants for subclass 864 Contributory Aged Parent Permanent visas to spread the significant cost of the visa over a longer period of time.
Applicants must undergo health and character checks to meet the criteria for the visa.
Once subclass 884 Contributory Aged Parent Temporary visa holders arrive in Australia they have two years to apply for a subclass 864 Contributory Aged Parent Permanent visa, which is a permanent visa that will allow them to remain in Australia permanently.
