Global Talent Employer Sponsored (GTES) Program

The GTES program is a form of labour agreement which provides access to a four year Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa under the labour agreement stream and a pathway to permanent residence. It is appropriate for employers who have high valued employees who are unable to qualify for a TSS Subclass 482 visa or permanent residence because e.g, they don’t meet a particular criterion such as age, or their occupation is not on a relevant permanent residence occupation list.

Employers can use this program to attract talent by offering a pathway to permanent residence for individuals who would not otherwise be eligible.

 

In order to be eligible for a GTES agreement, a business will need to satisfy the following criteria:

• The business must be accredited with the Department of Home Affairs or be an approved start-up business;
• Turnover must be AUD4 million or more for the past two years if an established business;
• The nominated employee must be paid a salary of at least AUD148,000 per year (or AUD80,000 if a start-up business).

In addition to being a pathway to permanent residence for employees whose occupations are on the Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), eligible businesses will also have the opportunity to negotiate other eligibility requirements including the age criteria for permanent residency.

 

Global Talent Independent (GTI) program

The Global Talent Independent (GTI) program is a streamlined visa pathway for highly skilled professionals to work and live permanently in Australia.

To be granted a visa under the Global Talent Visa Program, a candidate will be highly skilled in one of the following  target sectors:

(a) Resources;

(b) Agri-food and AgTech;

(c) Energy;

(d) Health industries;

(e) Defence, advanced manufacturing and space;

(f) Circular economy;

(g) Digitech;

(h) Infrastructure and tourism;

(i) Financial services and FinTech;

(j) Education.

 

To be eligible to apply for the GTI program under the Distinguished Talent visa, individuals must:

• prove they are internationally recognised with evidence of outstanding achievements;
• still be prominent in their field of expertise;
• provide evidence that they would be an asset to Australia, in their area of expertise;
• have no difficulty obtaining employment in Australia or becoming established in their field;
• have a recognised organisation or individual in Australia endorse them as global talent, in the same field as the applicant; and;
• evidence that that have the ability to attract a salary at or above the Fair Work High Income Threshold of $153,600.

Our team have experience with assisting companies with negotiating GTES’ with the Department of Home Affairs and liaising with the Global Business and Talent Attraction Taskforce to obtain fast-track approval of permanent visas through the GTI program.
